New Year’s Resolutions – Day 100 and Counting

2016 has been a great year so far and indications are that it will continue that way.
Let’s hope so!

The year was hardly a day old when we celebrated the first wedding of ’16 on January 2 at Iron City in Birmingham.  It was gorgeous in every way – venue and décor, lovely family and guests, and a gorgeous bride and groom becoming one together on a dream-fulfilled day!

Just a few weeks before, we rang out 2015 out with a beautiful wedding in Auburn on the week before Christmas. That event, followed by all the holiday hoopla, left me tired but wiser. As I looked forward to January 2, I realized a couple of important facts about myself. They quickly became my New Year’s resolutions:

  1. I love weddings. I love everything about weddings – the planning, the consultation, the creativity, helping amazing people realize their dreams, and this actually energizes me. Seeing two people in love lifts me up, especially when I am responsible for a large part of the planning process that will launch their lives together. Sending Liz and Josh off through a romantic line of sparklers and seeing Stephanie and Brent walking through sparklers on a golf course to their “get away” golf cart just tickled me!

Of course, no wedding can be successful without a professional team of vendors. Both couples trusted me to create their dream team – and that is exactly what we did. We all came together to deliver to each couple a well-managed, beautiful ceremony and reception.  It occurred to me just how ironic it was that this team ended our 2015 year together at a wedding and came back together again as a team for our first wedding of 2016! New Year’s Resolution #1 – Build a great team and keep them together!

2. I have realized just how much I really miss my family when I am working all weekend. So I am happy to announce that coming in 2016 I will be incorporating another ME into the business! I have wonderful and reliable consultants who help me on wedding day – but I need another ME. Someone to walk the bride and groom through their entire wedding planning process. New Year’s Resolution #2 – Find another ME!

I needed a balance that Erin Greggs brings to our work, and I feel such a breath of fresh air in this New Year! I feel refreshed, have had more time with my family, and I am continuing to take positive steps each day to be the best person I can be to my family and to my precious and deserving brides!

So, three cheers to 2016, and to the team! May this continue to be a year filled with love, balance . . . and teamwork!
